Terms of Use

The University of Illinois College of Engineering provides faculty, staff, students, visitors and collaborators with information and collaboration services via the college's Wiki service known as the Illinois College of Engineering Wiki, located at http://wiki.engr.uiuc.edu/. We intend for this service to be used towards to facilitate communications with all users of college resources and services. This service is provided at no cost and we reserve the right to change these terms of service and/or the nature or functionality of the service at any time. Throughout this document the phrase 'The College' refers to The College of Engineering located on the Urbana-Champaign campus of the University of Illinois.

The College of Engineering is providing this service using the product Confluence from Atlassian. Information on this product may be found at http://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence/.

You agree to not use the Service intentionally or unintentionally violate any applicable local, state, national or international law, including, but not limited to any regulations having the force of law. Authorized Users

This electronic service provided by the College of Engineering is intended for use by anyone with an affiliation or active relationship with the College or who has a valid need to access information about the department. Authenticated access to the service is restricted to those with a current valid University of Illinois NetID as defined at http://www.cites.uiuc.edu/netid/. All other users are provided with anonymous access and restricted as to what content they may access. Anonymous posting to this service is forbidden. All content that is posted to the service is automatically identified with the identity of the poster. This identification information is visible to anyone with sufficient access rights on the service to see the posting.

This service is intended to support a broad range of communications. Professional and appropriate etiquette is required.

Your Privacy

The College of Engineering is committed to protecting the privacy of the users of its service. Towards this end, information about users of the service, and the content of material communicated with or stored within the service will be governed by the University of Illinois's Web Privacy Notice which may be viewed at http://www.vpaa.uillinois.edu/policies/web_privacy.asp in addition to the information provided in this Terms of Use. You should be aware that the information posted to this service may be visible to all other users of this service. While some controls exist that allow you to restrict visibility, the College makes no warranties about the function of these controls and cannot be held liable should these controls fail.

On occasion the College may wish to replicate portions or all of user provided content within the confines of this service. By posting any content to the public areas of this service, including bios, blogs, and message boards, users grant the College of Engineering permission to display said content in anyway they see fit. This license will end at the time the user removes used content from the service.

You hereby agree and provide your express consent that the University of Illinois may access your account for administrative and other purposes such as compliance with university policies and other rules governing this service, including the investigation of security incidents. This right extends to any information stored within the account including e-mail, or other files of any kind or type. Faculty, students, or staff of the University of Illinois, who are using this service in the course of their work-related duties, will be notified of account access as described in section 6 of the Campus Appropriate Use Policy http://www.fs.uiuc.edu/cam/CAM/viii/viii-1.1.html.

Administration of the Service and Appropriate Use

We do reserve the right to remove unprofessional or off-topic items as we see fit. Individuals that consistently post on inappropriate issues or in an unprofessional manner will simply have their accounts removed. We hold the right, but have no commitment to, remove content and accounts containing material that we feel is unlawful, offensive, threatening, slanderous, obscene or otherwise objectionable or violates any party's intellectual property or these Terms of Use. We are confident users of the service understand and will abide by common courtesy and etiquette.

All users of the service are expected to abide by the terms of the Campus Appropriate Use Policy http://www.fs.uiuc.edu/cam/CAM/viii/viii-1.1.html.

A few specifics to point out:

  • Individuals must identify themselves as themselves and may not impersonate other users or individuals
  • Individuals may not share their account with others
  • Use of accounts for the creation or delivery of unsolicited commercial email (a.k.a. SPAM) is forbidden
  • Use of accounts to store or transmit copyrighted material such as music or video files is forbidden unless permission has been obtained from the copyright owner
  • Users may not violate the intellectual property of other users of the service or individuals
  • Services and the service may only be used as defined in these terms of use; attempts to 'hack' or otherwise compromise service systems will be grounds for account termination and will be reported to law enforcement
  • Services cannot be used to support cheating
  • Services cannot be used for commercial or profit making purposes
  • Services cannot be used to campaign for political office or on behalf of political candidates

Users are encouraged to report violations of these rules or inappropriate behavior to the College by phone or email at (217) 244-8032 or wiki-admin@engr.uiuc.edu. Individuals who feel their content was inappropriately removed should use these as well.

Each user is assumed to understand and agree to follow these policies, even if he or she has not actually read them. Ignorance is not a defense.
